Mark J. Osgood, 54, of Sable Pine Circle in West Palm Beach, FL and formerly of Claremont, died Saturday evening, October 2, 2010 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.

He was born in Claremont, NH on January 18, 1956 the son of Robert C. and Patricia M. (Rossiter) Osgood, Jr. and was a long time resident of Claremont and Charlestown.

Mark attended the Crotched Mt. School for the Deaf in Greenfield, NH; the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, CT; graduated from the Vocational College in Claremont in 1974.

He worked for Joy Manufacturing Company and later moved to West Palm Beach, FL where he was employed in the Engineering Dept of Pratt & Whitney, a subsidiary of United Technologies of West Palm Beach, FL until he retired in 2002.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling the United States and loved his trips to Hawaii. He toured Europe, spending time in Paris, London, Italy, Morocco and Switzerland.

Mark was an active member of the Palm Beach Deaf Club of the Lake Worth, FL where he enjoyed many close friends and social events and was an active volunteer.

The surviving family includes his mother, Patricia M. Osgood of Claremont and West Palm Beach, FL; three brothers, David W. Osgood and his wife Sandra J. of Unity and West Palm Beach, FL, Gary E. Osgood and his wife Bethany Yurek of Claremont and Robert C. Osgood, III and his wife Elizabeth A. Chalmers of Windham; his nieces and nephews, Christa Osgood, Thomas Osgood and Katherine Osgood of Claremont, Julie Osgood of Portland, ME and Zachary Osgood of Windham and several aunts and uncles.

He was pre-deceased by his father, Robert C. Osgood, Jr. on Aug. 1, 1981.

He will be sadly missed by his loving family and friends both in N.H. and Florida.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 9th at three O’clock in the afternoon in the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont with Rev. David Crosby, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.

Friends may call at the Funeral Home from 1 to 3 PM prior to the services.

Interment will be at a later date in Mill Village Cemetery in Goshen.

In lieu of flowers, Mark’s family suggests memorial contributions to the Palm Beach County Association of the Deaf, 3901 Davis Road, Lake Worth, FL 33461-3609.
